Nexus is the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive and administers funds on behalf of the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Authority.

We provide, procure, plan and promote public transport to a quantity and quality which contributes to improving the social fabric and economic prosperity of Tyne and Wear.

During the 30+ years of our existence many changes have taken place in public transport but the most significant change is the increasing use of the private car, quite often for journeys that could be made by some other means.

Planning for greater use of public transport through long term strategies, integrated transport and land use policies is imperative if we are to address the environmental damage caused by increased road use and congestion. The travel planning process is a valuable tool in helping to achieve modal shift from single occupancy car use to more sustainable ways of traveling.
